Mitten Lapse

0

Shot a couple of time lapse movies this weekend. It was a solo weekend for me at MittenStock – Sally was both on call and tending to a sick cat(s)

I have a third run at this still in the can. I exceeded the frame limits on the free version of LRTimelapse and had to run the second move in multiple batches with mixed results. I have a hard time with $200 for software I will use, twice maybe three times a year.

Anyway,

The movies;

Sunset on Friday Night –

Then Saturday – I let the camera roll while I did chores and made this. If you look closely, you can see hikers come and go from the summit. (updated with more footage)

A few hours of the day II from Michael Hassey on Vimeo.

I drove scooby over for the first time – I am no longer worried about the >20% grades come winter..

I just took this off the camera and thought I would share – it’s a large file, but was for me anyway worth a click into and full sizing it – sums up why I love being there. We had dinner on the deck, warm breeze, leaves rustling, drinks and conversation, and some classic jazz floating out of the house (Oscar Peterson if you must know) – I grabbed my camera to capture this memory…

First Hike from MittenStock

Not much, but we got out. Did boulder loop. It was still hot today – I think the high was 92 or 93. There was a nice breeze at the summit but it was still hot out there.

On the way back to mitten stock we hit up Lowes – done that every single day now – and got some parts to re-build the main floor toilet. That was fun. The grounds have been cleaned up more – the new dog / porch retention system has been installed as well as a new solar skylight deflector system.

We had dinner on the deck – sweet. The heat broke and the breeze was up. Nice night out there – even as I write this. We walked down to the pond – then back up, past the house to the top of the hill. Man. We live on some kind of steep hill here. But what views.

The hot July wind rustles the leaves outside my window. Echo’s of music fill the gaps from inside the warm glow of our new home as the last lights fade from this wonderful day.

One week from today we will be at RDC, just a 30 mile drive or around 18 miles or so as the crow flies. Funny enough to go on vacation sixty miles from where you live, but to then go on vacation 18 miles from your vacation home. Still, RDC is RDC and there is something special about that.

As we were walking on boulder loop today I remarked to my partner that it was still less than a year since we re-rolled into this hiking lifestyle. Less than a year later we own MittenStock, and have a mountain retreat. It was 29 years ago we met, not far from this very place, we joined forces and made a life. That life has now taken us full turn back to where it al began. I NEVER would have imagined ANY of this.

Fate? Luck? Fortune?

P.S.
Turned out to be a nice night sky.

Wow.

Talk about hot.

Dam.

We have done a lot despite temperatures north 95 degrees.

New kitchen faucet – that was fun.
More cleaning – always a good time.
Got internet – yay!

Home automation is coming along nicely –

Looking into AC – but – if this is only for a couple of weekends, we can hack it.

It was the second time here and the first time with the dogs – they seem to be doing fine.

The deck cam is up – click ‘current’ on the right hand nav bar from any page or post.

Closing Day Weekend

The keys are ours –

It was SO hot and humid – lots of work to move in, but move in we have

We cleared a mountain of brush and  saplings from in front of the deck (fifteen years over due for that job) we installed the home automation, cleaned it like never before, and began to personalize it.

Slept well the night before the closing. Slept well the night after the closing. That must mean something.

Because I still can
