Room With a View

This was our view tonight for sunset.

Feeling a tad bit fortunate.

Big fan of the time lapse.

Train Spotting

Yup.
That was one of the things we did today…

Turned into a rather nice day

Pouring this AM. It was looking grim.

It’s not how you start, but how you finish.

I am at the moment – set up with another time lapse from the roof. Bit of an experiment, locked in manual mode so it will not auto expose each shot – hoping for a nice fade to black effect.

A regular thing

Coming to Mittenstock – shooting a time lapse…

Hike and a climb on Hedge Hog

Day two of the hike and climb thing…

Today was up to the east ledges (a favorite spot for us) for some face climbing on warm granite.

Humping the gear up there is always fun. The dogs were barking from yesterday but we did OK for a couple of old timers.

There was a fair amount of hiker traffic – and at times the din was a little off the hook (we rope in right next to the trail – and for some we are quite the sight with are ropes and shiny clippy things)

No BAP today. Spaced it out. It would have been a sweet place for one.

Interesting clouds, great view

That was our daily hike.
Leisurely start after a hearty breakfast still put us at the trail head way before an early start from the coast –

We did this last fall sometime. We brought ropes and top-roped some routes on the cliff. Today was just a hike to a view – and the view did not disappoint.

The forest you hike through on the lower slopes is amazing with HUGE old growth hardwoods along a steep river gorge. Sweet.

UPDATE: We figure that big tree? Yellow birch. It was already well on it’s way to what you see today before the Declaration of Independence was signed. Cool.

Almost forgot – The BAP’s

Here are two.

Once Around Whitehorse

The rain, on it's way

We hiked around an old favorite of mine. I think the first time I did parts of the trail today was thirty-three years ago. We walked across the paths and passages of first dates, first time camping – so many memories.

We sat on the point over the south buttress and watched a mature eagle circling the currents of air with it’s yearling child. A small hawk (Kestral?) visited as well. The beverage from the red bottle was especially sweet, as were the memories and the views…

Bathtub

At least that’s what I am calling this place.

This was the top of a quick hike before dinner. Rain overnight and lots of fog this morning. When the sun did come out the humidity boiled up. Way up.

The ability to drop what we are doing and hit this kind of view on a moments notice is why we got Mittenstock.

And the obligatory BAP (Big ass panorama) Not that big this time.
